yes some of the african opal is not crack at 2-3 years. However the chatoyance would be another issue. if they touch water, the chatoyance for the opal would gone; if they don't, the opal would be really easy to break. However the australia opal would perform the better chatoyance in the water and the quality did not change after touvh with water
